The Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Yellow River Water Resources Protection Scientific Research Institute (YRWPR) formalized a strategic collaboration through a framework agreement signed on March 20, 2025. The ceremony was attended by key leaders and researchers, including IHB director MIAO Wei, YRWPR director PAN Yimin, and deputy director LI Jiadong, alongside senior scientists and administrative representatives from both institutions.
The agreement prioritizes collaborative efforts in environmental impact assessments of large-scale hydraulic engineering projects, ecological protection strategies for downstream water-sediment regulation, joint applications for national research funding, fish conservation and habitat restoration technologies.
A cross-institutional talent development mechanism will also be established, combining academic training with hands-on project experience to cultivate specialists for the Yellow River’s ecological initiatives.
This collaboration marks a significant step in uniting cutting-edge research with practical solutions for the Yellow River Basin. Through collaborative innovation bridging science, industry and policy, IHB and YRWPR aim to deliver robust scientific support for ecological sustainability, setting a precedent for water ecosystem conservation in China.
