CAFS Delegation Explores Collaboration with IHB to Advance Fisheries Research

On February 26, 2025, a high-level delegation from the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (CAFS), led by President CUI Guohui, visited the Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The delegation included LI Qiang, who heads the CAFS Office; LI Chuangju, director of the Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute; and LIU Yongxin, deputy director of the institute. They were warmly welcomed by IHB’s leadership team, including Prof. GUI Jianfang, MIAO Wei, director of IHB, deputy directors XIE Shouqi, HU Wei, along with other senior researchers and administrative leaders.
The visit centered around a symposium chaired by XIE Shouqi, where both institutions explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in fisheries research and innovation. Discussions focused on advancing high-quality scientific development and addressing global challenges in aquatic ecosystems and sustainable fisheries.
President CUI Guohui underscored the long-standing partnership between CAFS and IHB, emphasizing the importance of deepening ties in scientific innovation, technology transfer, and talent development. "This visit marks a significant step toward fostering stronger collaboration that will drive progress in fisheries science and contribute to sustainable development goals," he said.
Director MIAO Wei highlighted the potential for joint efforts in shaping the future of fisheries research. "By combining our expertise and resources, we can pioneer new approaches to fisheries development and support global efforts to sustainably manage aquatic resources," he noted. He also pointed to the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan as a strategic opportunity to align priorities and amplify the impact of their work.
This visit reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to advancing fisheries research and innovation, with a shared vision of addressing global challenges and promoting sustainable aquatic ecosystems.
