Professor from Harbin Institute of Technology Visits IHB

Prof. GAO Dawen from Harbin Institute of Technology paid a visit to IHB on October 24, 2019.

Prof. GAO Dawen from Harbin Institute of Technology paid a visit to Institute of Hydrobiology (IHB) of Chinese Academy of Sciences on October 24, 2019. During his visit, he gave an oral presentation with the title of "Enrichment of anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria and its abnormal metabolism of small molecular organic matter".

Prof. Gao illustrated the development of Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation (ANAMMOX), the mechanism of autotrophic bacterial nitrogen metabolism, carbon metabolism, anaerobic Ammonia-Oxidizing Bacteria (AAOB), biofilm enrichment, the advantages of anammox bacteria, the dominant strains, and the work conducted by his laboratory in the cultivation of ANAMMOX.

Prof. Gao systematically discussed the effects of small molecule organic matter on the activity and growth of Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation (ANAMMOX) enriched cultures with Jettenia Asiatica as the dominant species, and adopted 13C and 14N stable isotopes tracer technology and nano-secondary ion probe technology to analyze the absorption and conversion characteristics of Jettenia Asiatica on acetic acid, propionic acid, and nitrogen at the single cell level.

Prof. Gao is a professor and doctoral tutor of Harbin Institute of Technology. He is the receiver of a special allowance from the State Council and the new century talent support technology of the Ministry of Education. He was honored the first prize for the construction of science and technology in China by Longjiang Scholars, and the second prize for natural science in Heilongjiang Province.
